How we run Saturday Night Special

Saturday Night Special is not a commercial concert series. It is a community concert club, presented by Chinook Musical Society and run by the people who sit in the room.

An elected volunteer Board of Directors sets the season and keeps the Society on its feet. There is no paid staff. Every booking, every table, every sandwich, every last chair stacked at midnight is done by members and friends who want live music in the folk tradition to stay affordable and close-up at Braeside Community Centre.

Volunteers plan the season, work with artists, set the hall, run the cash-only bar and concession, greet the room, and put everything back so the next Saturday can happen. Some people take on a role for the whole season. Others jump in for a single show. Both keep the lights on.

If you love these nights and want them to continue, we are looking for help—season-long or event-by-event. Come for the songs. Stay long enough to help make the next one.

Current Opportunities

Ticket Manager

Set up each show with our ticket provider and manage sales through the event — listings, links, and anything that needs a fix before doors open.

Volunteer Coordinator
Reach out to volunteers about a week before each show and make sure every position is filled.

​

Casino Coordinator
About every 18 months we run a casino fundraiser. This role recruits volunteers and submits applications to AGLC.

Popcorn Maker
Make about 30 bags of popcorn for each show.

​

Kitchen Manager
Plan the food, pick up supplies, and oversee kitchen volunteers.

​

General Supplies
Keep stock of cups, plates, napkins, table covers, and other event supplies, and restock as needed.

​

Floor Manager
Be the extra pair of hands during the event — kitchen, bar, door, or wherever help is needed.

Set-Up / Tear-Down
Arrive early with keys, empty the storage room so the team can haul items up, stay after the show, and put everything away.
